Autoarchaelogical Digs

SO! In case you missed the last one and just look at the pictures, I have been trying my damnedest to find the pen to either of my WACOM’s and this lead to some apartment-cleaning and digging through some old boxes I hadn’t touched in a long time.

For the sake of extra, unneeded backstory- I first moved out with a girl several years ago because I was too chicken to do it on my own, and we had a whole place to spread our junk throughout. Things didn’t work out, and I wound up rooming with a friend afterwards, which wasn’t too bad, but I still had a Whole Place’s worth of stuff and now only had one room to stick it in. Still, not too horrible since some of my furniture got busted up in transit anyway. Then my friend rather abruptly announced he’d be ditching the apartment to get hitched and buy a house, and in a hurry I wound up moving into the cheapest place close to work possible, which is a teensy studio apartment that’s about the size of my old room, with a chunk cut off for kitchen/bath/closet space. As a result, even though I’ve “organized” my place, there’s still too much stuff and I’m kind of slow to pare it down for more space because eventually I *do* want a bigger place and don’t want to be one of those guys who auctions off their game collection only to spend years reclaiming it at a premium.

Yeah, I know. Priorities.

At least I know I didn’t leave the stylus in Boston since I was using it Monday and Tuesday, but it’s still not turned up. Then again, some people seem to like my Sharpie drawings, so I guess it’s not a hindrance to my draw-a-thing-a-day goal.

But enough of that! What did I find?

snesI haven’t really popped this out of its storage tote in a while, but I was glad to see my SNES is still working fine! I had actually unhooked it prior to moving out because it was flashing weirdly connected to my then-new TV, but I’m thinking that was more the set’s fault. Video’s kind of shit through the RF connection, maybe I still have the component cables for the system someplace. (In spite of my optimism, the Wii multi-out is the right size and wrong shape to work.) Honestly though, I was more worried about the carts’ condition than the system’s because they spent a good while after the move near the front wall where the moisture and temperature are worst.

floppy

In the same tote, I managed to find the floppy disc with the old (late 90s) version of the site from before I took on the Third Half moniker. As you can see, I was so excited that I not only put two exclamation points on it, but was willing to overwrite a collection of .WAV clips to back it up. I know some time ago, I uploaded a copy of my Hometown AOL page, but for many years I was using Angelfire as a host, and I think that’s where I really started to figure out what the hell I was doing, both in design and writing. Too bad they took away the photo center PC that still had a floppy drive. I’m morbidly curious!

I also managed to find the faux-dual shock controller I used to use with my emulators all the time, need to see if that works with my Steam stuff alright because the XBox controller I have keeps fucking up for some reason.

Awright. Gonna pizza up then get back at it. Wish me luck.
