Thought I’d apply softer treatment to a more toony drawing. Can’t say I’m in love with the final result, but I like how it looks on the clothing at least.

Sketch-A-Day 006- Blazing Blue
I wound up talking to a friend about Black Rock Shooter crap for a while this afternoon and wound up taking a crack at drawing her again. Maybe I’m just being harsh on myself, but I just never seem to get proportions down right when I do the initial drawing on the tablet compared to when I’m drawing on paper and scan it. At any rate, I mostly turned this into an excuse to try out some softer shading and generally go nuts with the brush and smudge tools. It’s kind of relaxing!
Also, as someone who wore rigid contact lenses for a really long time, I can’t help but imagine that when BRS powers up, it’s probably really uncomfortable and she probably binge-drops Visine into her eyeball between bizarre allegorical dream world brawls.
At any rate, really either of these are better than the random doodle I made of her way back when, though I wasn’t even really trying at the time either. I’m going to mix things up now and then on here since I’m trying to just kind of get some all around practice in, though if I’m bushed and/or sick like I basically started the year out as (blah) these sorts of doodles usually come pretty easily.
A Day Of Rest
Well, sorta anyway. Going to try and pencil in a bit so I have *something* to share on Xmas Eve.
This year has really flown by on me, and I do wish I’d been better about sticking to my guns on having more content to share. Here I was with big Halloween plans, and next thing I know I have tubes of Christmas wrapping paper propped up against my workstation. It hasn’t really been the worst year, looking back on it, but it wasn’t really one of my happiest and I only have myself to blame for it since it’s mostly attitude problems that kept me down in the dumps. It comes and goes a lot lately, fortunately it’s relenting a bit as the holiday running around sets in.
I haven’t been totally idle though! I pitched in for a Slayers Secret Santa Sexchange, er, Exchange and like the result pretty well.
I have some other one off drawing ideas I’ll hopefully toss up soon, but I want to get a +/- related something ready by Christmas since I haven’t done any since the belated finale of the Creepypasta saga. And yes, I mean in Good Art Mode.
Regarding Robotech Retrospectives
I haven’t given up on my Robotech thing, I’ve just been in more of a mood to draw in my free time than rewatch/reread/research the material, so the second part discussing the Sentinels is pretty far behind. I don’t really like it *quite* as much as the first part since the whole Sentinels project is kind of disjointed overall (the animated series cuts off after two episodes and I never read the comics, so that leaves the novels and RPG sourcebooks as the best resources I’ve got) and has more or less been relegated to secondary continuity anyway.
Still, when discussing “Robotech,” as its own entity, The Sentinels is still a significant chunk to look at. Goofy as it is, it was the first attempt made to really produce all-new content for the franchise. It includes little nods to each of the three ‘parent’ anime, and helps tie them together at last beyond a few clumsy splices to transition between ‘seasons.’ I’ve always found the effort kind of endearing, even if it amounts to weird, convoluted crossover fan fiction. So, hopefully I’ll be wrapping that up soon so I can finish getting all of that out of my system as part of my “make something I’m obsessed with into work so I get tired of it” program that’s worked like a charm pretty frequently.
Oddly, Platinum games seem immune and I want to play them *more* after writing about them. Hm.
