A rare moment of pride!

Aside from Scott looking like crap (which he’s supposed to. Even in ‘lazy’ strips, I purposely draw him about a notch cartoonier than the rest of the cast), I like how the last installment of my comic came out. Laptop did overheat once during the toning stage of it, though luckily I SAVED shortly before it for once! Usually my computer kacks at the point where I would lose as much work as possible.

I get the urge to talk art and comics here every now and then. Usually I squash that urge as soon as possible since it’s so hard to talk about your tastes or critique things without sounding like a total asshole. Though sometimes it’s fun to be an ass (say, FOGClub is updating again! *pumps shotgun*) it always feels hypocritical to pound on someone else’s work while promoting my own in the sidebar (READ REVOLVER KNIGHT).

Shall I? Shan’t I?

So, I done went and saw the Transformers last night, and it was about as good as expected- that is to say, chock full of explosions and robots and such. I do have to agree with one review I’d seen that it kind of feels like two movies stitched together- the first half being slower paced and a touch more ‘mysterious,’ followed by the long, fierce brawl downtown.

Anyway, I’m mostly satisfied, though I feel oddly hung over or something this morning in spite of not drinking anything (not that I usually do, really)

What we learned:

  • Optimus Prime has an impatient streak.
  • Drunken, waspy suburban mothers have an array of euphemisms for masturbation ready at all times
  • Always keep your alien artifact buckled safely in the back seat, preferably with the aid of a safety commission-approved child seat
  • Autobots will not harm humans, but can apparently opt out of catching a falling helicopter to save the crew
  • People mispronouncing “Witwicky” is really no funnier than the name Witwicky already is
  • BUY GM…. BUY GM…

There was also a large fiberglass replica of the Simpsons on their couch in the lobby too, in anticipation of the movie due this month. If done to 1:1 scale, I think Homer is roughly 10’6″.

Con-sume!

It’s not-so-new news anymore, but I’m stoked after seeing the screenshots of Contra 4. Plus, being the first numbered sequel in about 15 years gives us legitimate grounds to pretend every game since The Alien Wars (Excluding perhaps Hard Corps) never happened.

(I admit, I’ve never played Shattered Soldier or Neo Contra. The PS1 abortions combined with persistent moans of “TOO HAWD” turned me off to paying, well, about what they’re worth used. Feel free to attempt persuading me.)

Shantae’s proven that WayForward can do platforming well. I’m hopeful that it will beat out the rather watery and dull action of SSS  and carry the vibe of the NES/SNES editions….

I have some sketches to scan in later this afternoon. Weird stuff.
