OK! Been a bit since the last significant update, but I haven’t been totally idle. Next week, I hope to turn out a new comic of some kind or another and/or write some site articles. I’ve been in the mood to try more occasional updates while sticking to a theme, like the My Games or Demo Demo Panic ones as a guide. (Actually, I was going to write one about Armored Core: Last Raven then realized I’ve basically said everything I was going to in between the text review and review for AC3. On the topic of redundancy, have you ever heard of The Guardian Legend? IT’S KIND OF GOOD.)
I’ve been trying to push details better in my sketching lately. It does help you keep up sort of an idea of how the placement of things (facial features, etc) work if you make yourself do drawings from photos or life now and then, even if you have a cartoony style you’re comfortable with. I’m fond of clean, bold lines, which is part of why I draw so manga-y, but while I’ve been a bit happier with my stuff lately (I think my coloring’s improved a lot since just last year)
I guess what I’m getting at is I read a lot of webcomic criticism sites, and it seems almost universal that nobody likes an artist content to stagnate in their style. I don’t wanna be “that guy who draws his characters eyes a little farther apart every year,” or stubbornly insisting that my malformed fingers are stylistic. (Actually, they’re a by-product of the brush tool in Illustrator not all the close, tight curves- which you can totally call me being lazy since it’s probably fine tunable.)
Stay tuned, amigos.
