As the return of the comic and my number one time sink nears, it’s pretty clear I will need help getting the game/demo together. As such, I’d like to see about putting together a crack team of people with nothing better to do. There’s not money involved, just some more technical minded folks than me, preferably those who like to play/work on SHMUP-style games who can help tweak things, or some people who wouldn’t mind helping with some of the enemy sprites/NPC’s, so on.

Of course, there’ll be a need for play testers, eventually. I’ll update the project page soon with some more details on hopeful features.

I was THIS close to finishing Izuna last night when a pack of those stupid bomb monsters cornered me and left me just alive enough to warp out of the dungeon. Oh well, better nurse my patience until I’m ready to take on howevermany floors of random garbage again. I did beat SRW W anyway.

All of this ‘new old school’ junk like Diebuster and Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann have actually made me go back and check out the real old stuff, most of which is thankfully discounted these days. The entirety of Giant Robo, for example, can be had for eighteen bucks- six glorious episodes of dark, retro-style science fiction that plays out like a comprehensible version of Big O, in a way. Not to mention it coming with the Ginrei Special that refreshingly spoofs itself.

Then there’s the Gunbuster re-release. Nuff said?

Oh, those Pokeymans…

Okay, so we need to have a talk about this Japanese-Kids-Who-Collect-Shit genre of gaming.

Pokemon. Digimon. Yugioh. Medabots. Card Fighters, Duel Masters, yadda yadda yadda. It’s not so much the games themselves that get me, rather, it’s the way that in all these scenarios the battle game of the day is completely and utterly engrained into the lies of everyone, in all walks of life. I guess it adds to the immersion value of the bright and cheery worlds they spin, but it just seems odd that everyone from people’s parents to the school administration keeps a Pokeball or Robocube or whatever handy just in case some kid wanders by looking for a fight.

Musing on Pokemon, I’ve always wondered; Are there normal plants and animals in the Pokemon universe? I mean- people gotta eat something, preferably something that’s not too cute, poisonous, and conducting electricity. Or are there simply chefs who specialize in catching Pokemon en masse to slaughter and cook? Again, not that it’d make an appealing menu if your entrees were grass/rock types.

The next game of one of these series should address what happens when a fad dies. Maybe in a belated Medabots sequel, where Ikki wanders about town looking for someone to Robattle with a box full of enough bot parts to buy a used car, only to find the other kids are playing some collectible card game where famous war criminals wage mystical battle.

…Oh yeah, and those collectors’ magazine covers are fugly. Just sayin’.

I erased this post accidentally on the first try.

Ahem, a TGR placeholder page is in place now. I’m slowly but surely peeling myself away from Super Robot Wars W to bring you this.

Speaking of which, I’m officially past the halfway point, since I’m well into the second ‘season’ and experienced the jarring art changes that come with the accompanying time-skip. For example, the Nadesico characters are now all in their movie designs, which is kind of jarring as you’d expect a mid-game art change to be. Even worse than the napkin-doodle-esque Boss Borot compared to… Anything.

I'm not necessarily saying one style's better than the other.

God, why can’t I play games people actually give a crap about? I picked Card Fighters over Pokemon, and am currently waiting for Transformers movie tie-in games with bated breath over the idea of fighting on wi-fi with self-created robot monsters.
