Being reminded by the older gentleman I’m training at the lab today has, I think, been a revelation that “Talk Like A Pirate Day” is getting out of hand. And really, is it worth it? Do you people really want Hallmark to get their mitts into it and create another Frankenholiday, like Secretary’s Day or Sweetest Day? SWEETEST DAY, JESUS. The layered hulls of an oil tanker are an example of a needed redundancy. Valentine’s Day II, is not.

I fear for the day when we’re inundated with theme candies and perforated, grade-school valentine style greeting cards, with sayings like “I CLAIM YER BOOTY!” and “U ARRR THE 1” etched over badly illustrated pirates.

Can it be Tay Zon-Day instead?

Finishing Luminous Arc and beginning the New Game+ has been an odd experience so far in regards to character continuity. It’s one thing to have the usual ‘slogging through the tutorial in spite of superior levels,’ experience, but characters who change classes and titles over the course of the game stay in their ‘endgame’ forms for the purposes of battle. It’s clearly another to have to go through all the early-game “THE WITCHES ARE SO EVIL” drivel only to have Cecille the priestess return to her goth-witch getup upon the battle’s start. Or “Rym Hero” Alph demanding to know what a Rym is. You also have free use of the entire cast in non-story battles.

Word of warning though, if you level up characters you have to fight against, they’re going to be the level you left them at last, as I found out facing Vanessa at Level 60 surrounded by Level 3 or so henchmen.
In other gaming news, it’s been brought to my attention that there’s going to be a DS sequel to the obscure Treasure shooter Bangaioh. I can only hope it’s localized (or dumped to the web…) in a timely manner, since I’m getting a craving for action. Contra 4, Megaman ZX Advent, and Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations are already coming out by the end of next month. I may explode.

(comic’s running late btw don’t hit me)

Today’s comic is gonna be a bit late, I was dead set on finishing a commission piece I was nearing the end of. I just thought I’d take a moment and ask, flat out; what do you guys think of it?

Obviously I already know the whole “animu” thing has been done to death, and the plot friggin’ meanders until about Track 4, but it’s pretty much by design (the worst ones in my book are the ones where I went ‘off script-‘ the Kami as magic girl side story in particular, even if in the broad scheme it turned out to foreshadow with the sublety of a sledgehammer. After the reveal in 12, I decided to push for Disc 2 to go to a grittier feel, which is what I wanted all along. Something more Westerny than it had been. Ironically, this is the story arc where Kenji leaves the Wastes for much of the duration.

And probably some of you have noticed I applied the softer line style I was messing with here out on the last couple of comics. I’m pretty satisfied with how it makes the coloring feel a bit more ‘solid’ to me, and less coloring-book, though I’m going to need lots of practice to sharpen it. Incidentally, it seems to make things go a bit faster since I’m sketching/inking/coloring more or less simultaneously rather than breaking it up into distinct steps. Distinct steps I get sidetracked with RPG level grinding in between, anyway.
This is really just to gauge interest, anyway. So if you read it, by all means, drop a comment and maybe you can get to claim a hand in RK sucking less.
