Frontin’ the Mission, Yo

After basically letting it gather dust for a good while, I’m officially elbow deep in Front Mission DS. I played all the way through the SNES (or more accurately, Super Famicom) one years back (You may remember it from a Year in Review lost to the ether.) I haven’t tried the Bad Guy campaign yet, but being able to use some of the nonstandard mechs like the GIANT ENEMY CRAB er, Clinton-type is nice. I’ve also been bored enough to rack up obscene Arena winnings and buy all the best parts this time out instead of eking out upgrades here and there in an attempt to speed through.

Anywho. Could anyone spot the difference in the last 2 RK’s? If the answer is no, I’m pretty happy, because all I did was shift back to paper after several issues of straight digital work. It actually makes things go a bit faster, though I have to admit I’m gonna cut it to two strips this week, color 9 tomorrow, and work on next week’s material over the weekend. For tonight though, the weather just SAPS my energy.

I’m glad I’ve found some things that help my productivity, like capping my caffeine intake off at a certain point in the evening so I’m not jittering and tabbing over to Youtube every five minutes while trying to draw, and the paper-thing. I’m gonna try for some kind of scribble per post thing (after this post, of course) as another way of keeping my mojo up.

I think I’ve finally come up with an obligatory rating system for reviews from here on as well… now follow me, here. Now, I don’t think I’m alone in thinking numerical ratings are pretty well, lame. So using my old 3/2 ‘circle’ logo as a base, One Half means something sucks. A whole circle means it’s passable but unremarkable. But a third half, ah! There’s something extra there that makes the game/bad movie/feminine undergarment/war atrocity ‘click’ for me. Think of it as a thumbs up/thumbs down with an unhelpful ‘meh’ at the fulcrum.

Wanzers!

You can forgive me for Friday’s B&Wness as well as tomorrow’s probable delay for RK. After eight. Solid. Hours of scanning negatives and slides for some inevitably ungrateful customer (I’m sure I’ll be the one who has to explain why she can’t have intact copies of the negs that a presumably impaired photo clerk in the mid 80’s sliced in half) it’s really hard to make myself Photoshop for my own enjoyment.

Plus, hey. I got Spy Hunter(PS2) and KOF XI with my X-mas gift card.

Update: Radical methods are bringing my drawing mojo back, I should have something to show for it tonight!

The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of: The Making Of The 2007 In Review Thing

The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of: The Making Of The 2007 In Review Thing published on 2 Comments on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of: The Making Of The 2007 In Review Thing

Unlike the half-assed show I’ve put on for the past few year-end bits, I want this one to be uh, good for once, so I went so far as to start it early. Soon you shall behold an article so powerful it was forged over two weeks ago from raw .txtium ore in the fires of hatred and laziness. So let’s take an opportunity to build up more tension for the inevitable anticlimax earth-shattering FINAL UPDATE* OF 2007.

Breakdown of the article’s timetable and resources:

  • That week I took off from my webcomic and made one sorta funny Phoenix Wright injokey scribble in between establishing a buffer of finished pages to allow myself more time to fix the site up for the holidays
iwantasamuraispear.png
  • Wearing my ‘week ahead’ down to ‘one strip ahead’ with a combination of coming home too tired to focus and making the last push in my ‘Broketober Rush’ of DS games
  • Oh, hey, so that’s why the move markers in Heroscape are numbered
  • Scribbling something in Photoshop to fulfill the ‘silly pictures’ expectation set in the comments
  • Giving up, adding inappropriate text to blanked webcomic templates instead (HAHA MEGATOKYO)
  • Grumbling about how gaming technology peaked at the Neo Geo level
  • Deleting large rant on webcomics written from a combination of memory and plain fabricated instances
  • Realizing I’ve written x number of pages without addressing real world events
  • Deep shame
  • Why the hell did I decide to look at my Webalizer stats?
  • Writing during a MST3K marathon run
  • Trying to think of something dramatic to base my New Years resolution on
  • Bobbing my head to that “FIGHT DA POWUH!” number from Gurren-Lagann

This is the theme of the ‘G’, baby, raw raw, fight da powa.
