My touchpad randomly clicked a navigation button and deleted a big mushy speech I had going in my Draft window, so short version: I appreciate the hell out of everyone who takes time to enjoy my work, it’s always been fun to work on this site, and I’m especially glad for friends I’ve made through it since I’m not Mr. Social.

Have an awesome day, everyone.

Regarding Robotech Retrospectives

2014-11-12-VF1S-tanI haven’t given up on my Robotech thing, I’ve just been in more of a mood to draw in my free time than rewatch/reread/research the material, so the second part discussing the Sentinels is pretty far behind. I don’t really like it *quite* as much as the first part since the whole Sentinels project is kind of disjointed overall (the animated series cuts off after two episodes and I never read the comics, so that leaves the novels and RPG sourcebooks as the best resources I’ve got) and has more or less been relegated to secondary continuity anyway.

Still, when discussing “Robotech,” as its own entity, The Sentinels is still a significant chunk to look at. Goofy as it is, it was the first attempt made to really produce all-new content for the franchise. It includes little nods to each of the three ‘parent’ anime, and helps tie them together at last beyond a few clumsy splices to transition between ‘seasons.’ I’ve always found the effort kind of endearing, even if it amounts to weird, convoluted crossover fan fiction. So, hopefully I’ll be wrapping that up soon so I can finish getting all of that out of my system as part of my “make something I’m obsessed with into work so I get tired of it” program that’s worked like a charm pretty frequently.

Oddly, Platinum games seem immune and I want to play them *more* after writing about them. Hm.

tgl1It’s been a weird couple of weeks. Every so often I get in this state where the tablet just doesn’t ‘feel’ right and I need to bust out some markers or pencils until my mojo comes back. I say that when I should really be going ahead and knocking off this annotated bibliography for a research assignment, but… Ehhhh.

It dawned on me the other day with my new setup I can stream game footage in addition to the periodic Picarto streams. (Note to self: add sidebar links for my stream pages.) So over the weekend, I started playing The Guardian Legend live before trying my hand at the ROM hack version, TGL: Secret Edition. It’s kind of a trip playing a rearranged version of something so familiar. Playing online with a chat, small as it’s been, has already helped me learn more and appreciate other little things about the game I hadn’t noticed. I just love learning little details like the item drops not actually being randomized, or the curious “rubber band” pattern the Crawdaddy boss has. (If you maneuver side to side, he begins swinging around as well, spreading his projectiles and making him more annoying to hit, but if you stay put horizontally you can use the Saber Laser to cut right through him and his claw tossing with no fuss at all.) Secret Edition turns things on its ear by rearranging the entire overworld, upping enemy counts, changing what items you find where, and in especially interesting cases, puts shooter bosses in the overworld and vice versa. I never realized how much of a help that initial rapid fire upgrade out of the gate was until SE withheld it from the earlier stages and increased the number of enemies, which makes me rely on sub weapons more than I normally would. Which made when I reached an item room selling Rapidfire for 150 chips when I only had a max 100 kind of a kick in the teeth.

tgl2One of us has fists, you know.

I’ll continue to pick at it and probably some other games off and on via twitch when I have free time. I figure as long as I can support it, why not waste time with company?

nudistDixNew [+/-] is up, and with that, the look at the remastered PS2 classics is done. As stated there, I think next I’m going to go ahead and try to knock off a Halloween special to have it ready in time, since I *really* wanted to do one last year. I’m leaning toward making fun of gaming creepypasta because that’s incredibly topical and all. As far as actual reviews/strips, Smash is current but I feel like there’s not exactly much to be said about it other than I really wish Flynn from SMT IV was in it as a replacement for Pokemon Trainer. Especially if his demon loadout was something like Mara, Alice, and Beelzebub. And the clown mask is an alternate skin.

I also want a pony.
