I saw FireAlpaca, yet another freebie drawing program come up on my Tumblr feed today and decided to give it a shot. It’s pretty nice! I especially like that it comes with multiple types of grid to snap to, giving you sort of a speedline/perspective guide instead of the usual drag and drop rulers Adobe provides. I’ll get deeper into it this week, I basically made a bee-line right for the pen and brush tools since that’s what I use the most. See how they ‘feel’ and all.

Had to take a break from Etrian since my 3DS’s R button is acting up. It’s kind of irritating that both times a DS has broke on me, it was a shoulder button- and always during a game that uses the shoulders! In the case of Etrian, no R button makes it impossible to ‘tag’ in and out of leader status, I just kind of have to hold L down and keep clicking until something just happens to line up right.

Also my original wacom pen randomly turned up in the bottom of my grocery bag. Fffffff…

Feeling kind of blah tonight, couldn’t think of anything specific to draw so I just kind of played with MyPaint some more, tried out some different tools and such. It’s still a pretty good tool for just doodling away but I think ultimately I prefer using Photoshop and SAI for stuff I actually intend to finish and share around. Photoshop in particular offers a  lot more in regards to filters, blending modes, and well, I have been using it for over a decade at this point. I do like the modeling brushes it has (see: the hair) and some of the textured stuff, like the impressionist brush.

I am significantly less fond of this weird bug it has where it throws this error up when I save or export. It generally doesn’t mean anyhing, and still saves the pics. If I had to guess, I think it has issues remembering where I saved last when the dialogue box to save pops up, so it *wants* to save in the C drive outsie of any folders. So again, not a bad program considering it’s fee, and that infinite canvas feature is great.
