something something best laid plans whatvs over it
I had been doing these compilation posts from my iPad which is also where I’ve been doing like, all my drawing these days, but something broke on one end or another and the actual editing pane of wordpress just doesn’t fucking work now! I did fortunately do a recent cloud backup so getting all my October posts together isn’t *as* bad as it could have been.
On the other hand, Life Comes At You Fast and I did not have a very productive month artwise! Work wore me down to potentially literal bloody nubs dealing with understaffing, getting out the last of Halloween’s product and dealing with the start of the Christmas product and I honestly feel just completely over holidays as a concept at this point. I get to double-time it for months on end so other people can have a nice time while trying to finagle my free time in a way that works best for doctors and family. So, I intended to participate in the Slayers Artober event, but flopped out hard around day 8 between being wiped out and it turns out that trying to switch artistic styles every day when I barely consider myself a good cartoonist is kind of sapping. Nothing on the fan group I’m in of course- the lists are always creative and show a level of effort past ‘Copying another list’ and ‘a list of ships’ that I really appreciate, and I really wish I lived up to it this year.
In case it isn’t clear, Ya Boy isn’t in the best mood recently, but things are looking up from next month and I hope to actually get back to doing more Video Cosette strips instead of just random sketches of the same girl in different outfits over and over. Yes, I am aware.
Slayers Artober Day 1: Psychadelic “We can’t stop here, Gourry! It’s bat country!”
Slayers Artober Day 2: Minimalist- I kind of hate how being exposed to so many designer toys and stuff over the years already gave me a pretty good idea where I wanted to go with this one.
Day 3: Realism- I have always been lousy at life drawing and referencing photos. Somehow I just can’t ‘convert’ the subject in real time the way you need to to do it properly and I get closer by just kind of staring at the image a while and trying to work from memory.
Day 4: Pointillism- I tried to make up for the last one since I could go stylized again. I like drawing Zel!
Day 5: Conceptual- I skewed a little bit here and made it into ‘concept art’ for the OAV “Limera” design. Diol is one of my favorite bit characters and I still want to believe the old sorcerer who teaches the group about Copies in season 1 is him given the area of expertise and very similar look.
Day 6: Surrealism- Originally I was going to draw Nunsa melting instead of the clocks then I looked at the original Dali painting and saw a sheep or something just louging. People liked this one.
Day 7: Comic- Heh.
Day 8: Abstract- This was actually meant to be the chart of the four worlds on the Sea of Chaos. Did anyone get it? Iono. Nobody said anything. It’s blocks, why would they comment?
About here is when the [ARKNIGHTS DEATH BUZZER] hit the fan and I wasn’t able to draw much of anything after work because I was too worn out and started soaking my feet while playing games or reading instead.
I’d actually been tweaking Cozy’s design a bit lately. Her bangs are a bit lower and cover more of her face, and usually go in one direction so they look softer. Been also experimenting with long t shirts as the main point but I think maybe her body type takes it away from ‘cute’ and just like… boing.
More than a couple people looked at this with sympathy at having dropped their phone or tablet on their face holding them like this.
This is kind of the opposite of ‘long undershirt,’ huh?
Cozy as a Junkshi- a junk food jiangshi. They mesmerize their prey by hopping up and down and steal their snacks.
This is a pretty good illustration of what I mean with the hairstyle changing, she still has some bedhead stray hairs here and there, but it looks much more soft and round, don’t you think?

I should probably do more fanart, just haven’t been in the mood much lately. It is easy engagement! I do really love Kronii, though. Not many people can exude confidence and disaster at the same time.
I like this pic but I also happened to read a post this morning saying something about anime girls wearing ‘not so much costumes as orange dresses with bats and stuff glued on’ and yeah, that is kind of how Halloween for weeb stuff goes, huh? I still love the look.
Finally, the background art for this year’s RGL Halloween Horror Marathon. I mean to draw stuff for events more often, I just… don’t. Seemed to go over well. Maybe I’ll try to get a couple more in for the end of the year.
